ok, my first attempt at writing a riddle. tell me what you think, and if its too easy/awful
my first is the first of an act of god
my last replaces a sail
my whole will show what others know
but where you are right I am wrong
what am I?
oh, and I didn't pick the subject line for special importance, its just the nicest sounding one
also, I know usually "my first" and "my last" refer to letters or words. the answer is one word, not a compound word, and not two letters.
Acts of God: A natural and unavoidable catastrophe that interrupts the expected course of events.
calamity
disaster
earthquake etc.
An engine/motor/kite/oar/paddle can replace a sail.
Quote:my whole will show what others know

meh, along the right lines except the first part of calamity/disaster/earthquake doesn't combine with engine/motor/kite/oar/paddle to get Answer/books/encyclopedia/check. I actually made an effort to make the different parts of the riddle connect and work together.
Vi, I was not giving an answer yet, just putting my thoughts in the thread, so others might see the light.
nope, sorry. and the prize was really good too...
as I said, I tried to make the riddle actually make sense. and you all make god out to be such a horrible person!
Act of God = Miracle = First = M
So far so good I hope.

(Mir)r(or) seems to fit if the homophone "or" is used instead of "oar."
A mirror lets you see what others see.
The apparent reversal of the image is wrong.
markr wins =]
yeah, the act of god thing may be a bit misleading, but a miracle is an act of god, isn't it? I'm not very religious and don't know the fine differences in terminology... =P
if you've thought of an improvement to the riddle, feel free to suggest it. I'd like to try to make up some better ones, make them rhyme even =P
this one took less than a minute to write, I guess I should spend more time on them in the future
my first is the first of an act of god- creation?
dude, someone already got the answer.
