Akvavit is customarily associated with Scandinavia - and is a grain product - - - Schnapps is more normally associated with Germany and Austria - and is a fruit brandy - sometimes a flower root.

Eau-de-vie
on the other hand is considered a tonic for the soul almost universally.

After holding up a bank - the crook drove across the street to fill his autos gas tank at the service station - where the police arrested him.

at today's gas prices the crook would be better off to hold up a gas station, fill up some jerry cans with gasoline, drive to the bank and deposit the jerry cans in the safety vault (almost a true story)
