How to use the word "specific"

Technically Jane the comma s/b semi; otherwise grammar okay but sentence somewhat wordy

My friend is very picky, preferring specific foods; so we look for it

Also might need a spot of detail

My very picky friend likes only certain kinds of food, and so for each visit we always spend time shopping for her benefit

Because my picky friend prefers specific foods we spend extra time at the supermarket in preparation for each visit

If you use 'foods' (plural), you look for them.

...so we always spend a lot of time looking for it.

I think this sentence is a little messy, but coherent.

I would put a period after the word 'picky', or maybe rewrite it to include something like the word 'because' to make it into one sentence.
