We also have all kinds of interesting minor side stories such as George Washington main slave/ butler fooling the family in order to win his freedom.
Washington at the time was serving as president with the then capital being located in Philadelphia.
The state law of PA at the time only allowed you to have a slave in the state for a short period of time before he or she would become a free person, so such people as Washington would rotate their slaves between the south and PA so the time limit would never be reach.
The Butler when it came his time to be rotated back to VA pretended to be greatly hurt that Washington could even think that he would take advantage of such a law and talked Washington into leaving him in the north until the clock ran out.
At that point he wave goodbye to the first president and the first president family and walk away as a free man.
