LONDON (Reuters) - It is one of the world's favorite fruits, but the banana hasn't had sex in years and its days may be are numbered.
Without scientific help the sterile, seedless fruit could disappear with 10 years, according to a Belgian plant pathologist.

<wringing my hands> Whatever are we going to do? the scientists better get on the ball quick and find a solution for those poor sexless creatures. Does that mean, if bananas are produced by parthenogenesis, that they are all female?? Very Happy

dyslexia- As you probably knw, I love to research things. After reading this thread, I thought that I might go to Google, and type in, "Sex/bananas". Then I realized the ramifications of that sort of search, and decided against it! Laughing

In my state, Florida, you can get just about any kind of license plate. I am going to lobby for a "Save the Banana" Plate!

Ok now I have to add the banana to my already
overwhelming group of items on their way to
extinction; African and Asian elephants, lions,
leopards, tigers, cheetahs, pandas, zebras and
Heaven only knows how many other mammals,
reptiles and who knows how many of what else
are in danger mainly due to habitat destruction
& poaching - or at least that is what the World
Wildlife Federation says - but then they want me
to donate money. Personally, I say that we
shoot all those poachers and feed them to the
endangered species. But - to never have another
banana - that is getting pretty sad.

Yeah, but if all the bananas are females, then how did they get here in the first place?

Yes, we have no bananas!!!

This is a disaster! But frankly I'm hard-pressed to believe that a banana is female. Bananas sure don't look like goils.

i dunno, banana's grow pretty wild in hawaii and on guam. maybe they need a tropical environment to put them in the mood.
