Facebook friend can see someone's profile updates I cannot?

So this is going to sound lurky and stalkerish. But I have friend let's call him Sam, so Sam and I have a mutual friend we will call Mel. There is another girl who has a Facebook page her name is misty who is friends with Mel . Neither Sam or myself are friends with misty. However my friend Sam can see status updates and multiple pictures uploaded by Misty while I can only see a profile picture. Sam has multiple mutual friends with this particular profile while I only have the one mutual friend. Any other reasons why he can see more of the profile than me?
