Don't know if this is a stupid question, but do you guys have the reality show Outback Jack in Oz? Not sure... it's hilarious and really entertaining... comments?
Not that I know of. Sounds kinda weird, I'm not that much into reality shows.
Oddly enough, it's a reality show where a bushman (I guess that's what you'd call him? He's a hot Aussie from Melbourne who is an animal expert who lives in the Outback now.) is set up with a group of a dozen or so high-maintenance American girls. They camp out in the Outback for like 2 months and go on all these adventures and it's all designed to see how these idiots react to their surroundings while Jack sees which one is invested in true love. It's pretty out there but good TV nonetheless.

Interesting.
A bushman, as far as I'm concerned, is still a native of Africa who speaks a funny clicking language.
A Jackaroo is what we call a cowboy (Jillaroo for a cowgirl) so that might fit.
oops. see our education re: world civilizations is sorely lacking in this country. Therefore I have decided to take it on myself, hence my plan to come to Australia.
Maybe that's why they call him Outback Jack... for Jackaroo. I'll bet his name isn't even Jack.
The girls are sickening. They're all about their Tiffany, their nails, their hair. They're kind of like sorority girls, self-obsessed and clicque-ish. Very few of them are cool & independent, and thankfully one of them has remained. Thankfully more still the producers brought a team of normal Americans, strong athletic females, to compete with the princesses. They actually ran an obstacle course and of course, the strong, confident girls won.
It makes for some good mocking of the types of girls who can't live without a hairdryer.
I am a bit of a reality fan - in that I admit to liking them in the midst of so many who detest them - and I have seen this one. It has probably got to be one of the worst ones out there. I'm getting really tired of love-games like this, the entertainment value is really dropping off. Neither Jack nor his bevy of high-maintenance gals are worth the effort.
I have certainly never heard of Outback Jack.
Bushman is - or was - a perfectly acceptable word to describe one who knows the bush (which is a common way to describe remoter country areas) and can survive well there.
Jackaroos and jillaroos are just folk who work on stations.
Bushman is probably an old fashioned word, now.
I think it was Brittany Spears who once said "What's Australia? Why would anyone want to go there?"
Then again, she's also a huge fan of George Dubya, "I think we should support our President in anything he does without question". I wonder if she's ever heard of democracy.
Heeven, now I HAVE to see it, just to see who's right.
dlowan, yes, it old fashioned. I think people kept getting confused whenever somebody said "We have a real live Bushman here!" and a tall, white Aussie bloke walked in instead of a short, black African.
Jackaroos and Jillaroos ride around on horses rounding up livestock, so do cowboys. I heard somewhere that the word Jackaroo is what the Aborigines used to call newcomers to the outback (not sure why). Interestingly, I was once asked if I'd be interested in a career as a Jillaroo.
Hmmm - many jackaroos and jillaroos now use motorcycles - and, on very big stations, helicopters.
But, the Australian stock horse does continue to be used sometimes.
Thank goddess....
The show will be on down here in our summer.
The funniest part is that the guy playing "Jack" is a complete city boy.
He knows bugger all more than the ladies about the "Outback".
His real name is Vadim Dale. He went to a swish school in Geelong and previously worked as an underwear model.
Should be funny just to have a laugh at him being "tough" if nothing else.
BTW. Bushman is an old term now. Doesn't get used much these days but it's still around. It mainly refers to someone that has a lot of knowledge about the bush. Jackeroos and Jilleroos are people who actually compete at rodeos. People who work on stations are usually called Stockmen or Stockhands. Obviously a lot of Jack/Jilleroos are also Stockhands when not competing.
something else daffy to avoid!
Yeah, and where have all the cowboys gone....
Quit blowin' the fantasy people!!!
