The stigmas can be said to metaphorically threaten, just as "society" can be personified to do that. However, of course it's really individual "normal" people who, by applying stigmas, do the threatening to the stigmatized.

I failed to get a clear picture about "for well-being":

Context:

My understanding got three possibilities:

(1) situations for well-being (situations that relate directly to the well-being of the stigmatized)
(2) appraisal for well-being (appraisal that is made for the well-being of the stigmatized)
(3) the significance for well-being (the significance that regard the well-being of the stigmatized)

Which one is correct?
