yep, and the little crystals are called "DRUSY QUARTZ". Mineralogically its a crypto-crystalline quartz ,its all a sub- variety of chalcedony. The forms of crypto quartzes are usuaully the same and differ only in their occurences and chemical "mix" (this affects colors and density). Common chalcedony occurs as crusts and layers in geological formations while agate occurs as infillings in cavities which, when rockhounds find em, theyve been eroded out of their homey rocks and have been abraded into things like rounded geodes etc.
Economic geologists use these forms of chalcedony to focus in on more important mineral deposists (like copper deposits are often "given up", by the occurence of chalcedony called chrysoprase .
