Disabled account...still use messenger?

I've recently purposely disabled my FB account for reasons I won't get into here. It isn't a permanent disable. I will likely come back at some point. However, in the meantime I would like to use the FB messenger service with my contacts. Is this possible while still keeping my regular account disabled?
