@usmankhalid665,
You forgot to mention anything about the mysogyny, and the dress and behavior codes for your women.

For instance, please explain how the requirement for many of your women to be made to wear the niqab comes about.

Would you not agree that such a requirement is purely a medieval tribal thing, rather than religious?

In my own personal opinion, the way that muslim men oppress and control their women is nothing short of outrageous in this modern world.

@Lordyaswas,
First of all . this is the right of Muslim women to wear Hijab, not burden.

Hijab is one of the righteous deeds and it is a sign of honor and equality with men and stands as a shield of protection against evil man.

The woman in Islam is bestowed with respect and honour and a Muslim gives great importance to his wife. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad's (saw) Hadith says the best of you are those who are best in resting their wives.

One of the most common phrases in Islam is the 'Paradise lies at the feet of the mother'. And Allah (SWT) states in Holy Qur'an: "And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word." Holy Qur'an (17:23)

Hijab (Modesty) is also for Muslim Men
"Say to the believing men that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts; that is purer for them; surely Allah is Aware of what they do." Holy Qur'an (24:30)

To cast down one's glance, means not to look in a fixed way, not to stare. The sentence means, "Tell the believers not to stare at or flirt with women."

Allah (SWT) has given equal rights to both men and women; He forbids either sex claiming supremacy over the other. Allah (SWT) states in the Holy Qur'an: "The most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you." Holy Qur'an (49:13)

Look at the glossy cover of any magazine or advertisements on TV and newspaper, you will find that most of these advertisements have scantily dressed women in alluring poses to attract the attention of men. This proves that the Western society considers woman only as a sex symbol.

However, in Islam, women, whatever their role as mothers, wives, sisters or daughters, command respect and have a constructive role to play in society. The Hijab itself gives an aura of freedom to the womankind, facilitating their movement and protecting them from provocation and wanton greed of the human wolves. Removal of the Hijab makes you vulnerable to the lust of men.

Those who feel that Hijab imprisons women should refrain from living in houses because it is nearer to a prison than Hijab.

advantages of observing Hijab:

Confidence in social participation as human being and not as sexual commodity.
Guarding one self from the lustful looks of men.
Not diverting people's attention from constructive social work.
Improving the moral character of the society.

A truly liberated woman always dresses decently and modestly. A true woman will never degrade her body and sell her dignity to the highest bidder. No woman is truly liberated if she is still the slave of her wayward conscience, bodily lust or infidelity.

@usmankhalid665,
Lordyaswas asked about the niqab, not the hijab.

You did not answer his question.

_________

In any case, your post about the hijab spoke about cultural, not religious, factors in the wearing of the hijab.

But do try again - a response in regard to the niqab would be interesting.

How nice ... White people judging how women dress in other cultures.

Imagine similar charts showing the limits of acceptable clothing in the various western cultures. I think many people would find this insultuing.

Cultural supremacy isn't pretty, and yet most of us seem blind to it in ourselves.

@ehBeth,
The six criteria for burqa, naqab, hijab, what so ever, in Islam, for a woman is that, her complete body should be covered – the only part that can be seen, is the face and the hands, up to the wrist. The clothes that she wears, should be loose, should not be tight… where it reveals the figure, Third is, it should not be transparent, that you can see through. Fourth is, wear. Fifth, it should not be that glamorous, that is attracts the opposite sex. Sixth, is it should not resemble that of an opposite sex.
NOTE: this is minimum requirement for a Muslim Women to cover their body.

The Three Billygoats Gruff

Many years ago, in the Khwarism kingdom, the empire centered
around the cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Gurgange in the territory
now called Uzbekistan, there was a bridge across a narrow section of
the Syr Daria river and this bridge was guarded by a troll, named Ali
Mohammed Qa-eelbasi. This was before the Inalchik and the Shah Mohammed of the Khwarism
empire burned the beards off of four of the infidel dog Chengis Khan's
ambassadors and Chengis Khan reduced that entire territory to a smoking
ruin (may he who cannot take a joke endure Allah's curse).

Now, this Ali Mohammed Qa-eelbasi was quite wealthy by inheritance and by
dint of clever investment strategies and stock trading and, having no need
of money or wealth beyond his possessions, and being an islamic troll,
rather than demanding money from travellers seeking to cross his bridge,
was in the habit of demanding various other favors from them.

One morning while Ali Mohammed was guarding his bridge and attempting to
catch fish in the Syr Daria, he heard the light clatter of little hooves
on the wooden planks of his bridge and looked up to see a little billygoat
traipsing across the bridge, trippity, clippity, clippity, trippity, and
this little goat (Allah be praised!!) had glossy white fur and flowers in his
mane, and was wearing a silk petticoat with what appeared to be lace panties
underneath, Ali Mohammed could not be quite certain, and a little training
bra from Bloomingdales', and had a coy smile upon his face.

Quote:
"ALLAH BE PRAISED"!! shouted Ali Mohammed! Surely the faithful shall prosper,
this must be my lucky day!!!!

And, the little goat looked at Ali Mohammed, the coy smile still on his
lips, and said:

Quote:
"Verily, I should be happy for you to have your way with
me and ravish me to your heart's content but, were you to do
that, you would then be too exhausted to appreciate my brother
when he passes this way. He is only a short distance behind me
and he is a larger, finer and more lovely goat than I; he buys ALL
of his clothing from Victoria's Secret."

Now, when Ali Mohammed heard this, he was overcome with passion and desire,
and could scarcely restrain himself; nonetheless, he replied:

Quote:
"Go then, with Allah's blessing", and allowed the little goat to cross the bridge
unmolested. "I shall (eagerly) await your brother!"

Ali Mohammed went back to his efforts to catch fish and, about a half hour
later, he heard a somewhat heavier fall of hooves across the wooden planks
of his bridge: clippity cloppity clop, clippity cloppity clop, and Ali
Mohammed looked up to a sight which aroused within him a veritable paroxism
of passion. This was a larger goat with a gossamer veil over his face, red
roses braided into his glossy white silky fur all around, a golden necklace
and the thinnest sort of a purple gossamer bodice of finest khitan silk,
and dark, brown bedroom eyes.

Quote:
"ALLAH BE PRAISED!!!" shouted Ali Mohammed, "Verily, this must be the luckiest
day of my life, for surely no troll has ever beheld so lovely, and desirable,
and alluring a goat as thee!"

Quote:
"Patience!" replied the goat. "Surely you might have me if you wish, but
then you would be too exhausted to appreciate my eldest brother, who travels
only a short distance behind me. He is the sexiest and most voluptuous and
alluring goat in all the world, and he buys ALL of his clothing at Sexy Sadies
Midnight Boutique. Verily, were he standing here beside me, you would not
notice me at all!"

Ali Mohammed somehow or other managed to restrain his lust and passion and allowed
this goat to pass as well and, after ten or twelve minutes when he collected
his wits and got his pulse and breath back under control, returned to his fishing
poles.

Now when the eldest brother amongst the three goats came up to the bridge over
the Syr Daria river and walked upon its wooden planks, Ali Mohammed did not notice
at first, because this goat's hooves, for some reason, made no sound. Ali
Mohammed was in fact taken by complete surprise as this third goat walked up to
within five feet before the troll ever saw him at all. This goat had a silken
veil as did the second goat, and gossamer clothing but, underneath the gossamer,
appeared to be a very strange goat indeed, yellowish with black stripes, a long
tail, fearsome claws, and huge, very non-goatlike teeth. This third goat spoke
these words:

Quote:
Bless, O Lord, this food to my use and me to thy service, and make me ever
mindful of the needs of others through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

and, with that, seized the unlucky troll in his mighty jaws, chewed him into
bitesized pieces, and wolfed him down.

@ehBeth,
There is not a single Western country on the list... nor is there a single clothing choice of Western women being judged.

That's my point. The implication is that Western civilization is superior to other cultures in how we treat women... right?

Given the history of the Middle East, this coming from someone of British descent is rather funny (if not offensive). The alleged superiority of the Anglo-Saxon culture has led to a number of injustices, more than a few of which could be called "outrageous".

Cultural imperialism is still a big part of modern western culture.

Jesus said we can know false prophets by their fruits.... The fruits of I-slam are writ large on the pages of history books and newspapers alike. Nowhere is the story worse than in India.

I think that since we know that Muslim cultures have failed spectacularly in producing advancements in civilization, and for the most part fail to even produce civility, that the religion has to be part of the problem. I dont know enough about it to discuss in detail but Islam is pretty clearly an inferior religion.
