Apologies for being late with this NEW topic - I really should have started it back on 1 January.
Each day, or on a series of days, I'll post a QUOTATION/QUIP as well as a FACT/TRIVIA contribution.
If there is some OTHER piece of Factual Trivia that you feel may be relevant for that day in History, then please feel free to post it on that day.
To begin with, I'll post the first eight days of this year that I've already missed.

1 JANUARY:
FACT - In 1368, China's Ming Dynasty began.

6 JANUARY:
FACT - In 1778, Captain James Cook discovered Hawaii.
QUIP - Some modest men have a lot to be modest about.
7 JANUARY:
FACT - In 1902, the Teddy bear was first introduced.
QUIP - Old age is preferable to the alternative.
8 JANUARY:
FACT - In 1997, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was first published in the UK.
QUIP - I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

QUIP - To the puritan, all things are impure.
Can you provide who said each quote? Don't worry if it's too much trouble. I know Jan. 2, of course, but not the others.

Some of the "quotes" are not quotes! They are "quips" made by persons unknown. If it is a "quote" then I'll put it inside quotation marks, and if I know the author, for future quotes, then I'll add it accordingly.
