When I was a boy I hated buttermilk. Then I grew up. I still hate it.

@farmerman,
I used to hate it. In the last year I discovered that some cook made a dipping sauce out of buttermilk and honey. Ive learned to mix just enough so it tastes like a bit sour but a honey sweet undertaste. erve with ice cubes.

@farmerman,
To make buttermilk dip more palatable, do you have to dip tripe in it?

Yerk.

Should be labeled with skull and crossbones.

@roger,
Well, hardly a rousing display of support for this under appreciated acidulous liquid.

I eat buttermilk biscuits and pancakes. Don't know why they have to make it an ingredient. Non buttermilk don't taste much different.

@edgarblythe,
buttermilk makes **** rise better.
You probably just go to the diner or let your dear wife do all the cooking.

Around here if I want some sweet lovin I gotta keep the pot stirring and do my share of the cooking.

@chai2,
Did you ever try it with a bit of hony in there? DELICIOUS

I was raisd on sour cream on everything. My gramma even made icings for bleenies with sour cream. So buttermilk wsnt a big change.

Lordy dips his tripe innit, but I used to at herring in a sour cream and onion and dill sauce.
I think the left over Jewihness in me loves all that kinda stuff. I dont recall whether herring was or wasnt kosher when you served it in a milk product??
If it wasnt kosher, then we were enough Slovak Catholic to eat anything that was dead enough.

@farmerman,
I remember my dad drinking room temp buttermilk with some fresh-ground black pepper in/on it. I couldn't really understand it. One of those weird things grown-ups do, eh.

It's good ingredient for baked goods - helps with the rising and adds a slightly tangy flavour.

mmmmmm pickled herrings with sour cream. yummy.

When supermarkets were not so super and they had black overhead fans instead of A/C, I sometimes went with my parents to do some shopping. More than once my step father would take out a quart of buttermilk and drink it as he walked around the place. The milk came in square paperlike cartons, waxed to keep the milk from penetrating, and the lid was a tab on the top, in a corner. Before checking out, he always neatly closed up the carton and set it back in the cooler.

@edgarblythe,
I had another small glass with the honey and I gota say, it was even better (I think it takes the honey a while to go into solution)
