TWO Sides to Every Foil?

Sat 23 May, 2015 04:19 pm
Many rolls of aluminum foil have two differing sides (one flat/mat and the other shiny). Does in matter which side one uses when cooking in an oven (reheating pizza for instance)?

Googling only leads to results from Yahoo Answers and the poorly researched like. Inquiring minds like to know out of bored curiosity.

@tsarstepan,
It only matters when you're making a hat.

The shiny side is the one that deflects the mind control probes.

@tsarstepan,
"Which side of Aluminum Foil should I use, the shiny or the dull side?"

"Actually, it makes no difference which side of the aluminum foil you use both sides do the same fine job of cooking, freezing and storing food. The difference in appearance between dull and shiny is due to the foil manufacturing process. In the final rolling step, two layers of foil are passed through the rolling mill at the same time. The side coming in contact with the mill's highly polished steel rollers becomes shiny. The other side, not coming in contact with the heavy rollers, comes out with a dull or matte finish.

The exception is when using Non-Stick Aluminum Foil. The non-stick coating is applied during manufacturing to the dull side of the foil. Always place the non-stick (dull) side toward the food."

@Ragman,
Be like me, buy cheapo foil, no problemo.

I admit to having a friend tell of her aluminum foil catching on fire in the oven, now many years ago, let's say 40. That has never happened for me, but I don't put my oven up very high anyway.

Ok, ok, I've bought the heavy stuff once every five years, but I don't do a lot of Big Bird roasting.

The advent of a patterned side to foil is a new phenomenon I'm just learning about in this thread.
