It happened again. With a twinge of sadness. Cav posted a humorous response on his Silliness thread and there was a song that my brother used to sing. I remember it as clearly as if he were right here:

When the swallows come back to Capistrano,
That's the day you promised to come back to me.
When you whispered farewell in Capistrano.
That's the day the swallows flew out to the sea.

(bridge)

Oh the mission bells will ring,
The chapel choir will sing,
And happiness you'll bring,
To live in my memory.

From memory

When the swallows come back to Capistrano.
That's the day,
You promised to come back to me.

I promised myself not to go all teary.

Everybody stays

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on

'cause everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. don't throw your hand. oh, no. don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. and everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. so, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. you are not alone

This Randy Newman song has been travelling along with me ever since I posted it to an A2K thread yesterday. I guess worse things could happen -it COULD be Jingle Bells!

No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around even our old friends put us down
Lets drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-But are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so lets surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin too

Boom goes London and boom Paree
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono
And there'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So lets drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

I can't get the lyrics to "Push and Shove" from Fatboy Slim's new album out of my head. But I also can't find them online, and I'm too lazy to type them up.

George, How does one do this one in Latin?

Over the river and through the woods,
To grandmother's house we go.
The horse knows the way,
To carry the sleigh,
Through the white and drifting snow.

Over the river and through the woods,
Now grandmother's cap I spy.
Hurrah for the fun, when the pudding's done
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.

Head Worm
The Germans have a word for a song 'stuck in your head'. I can't remember the word but I know it translates as 'Head Worm' (perhaps our German friends could help us out on this).

I find the term Head Worm very apt.

My partner phones me at work to tell me his daily Head Worm, which inevitably becomes mine!

Last week it was Roger Millar's King of the Road for some stange reason.

Ever noticed that it's very hard to change a Head Worm once it's in situ?

Just a thought before bed
Y'all, you know that thread 'what song cheers you up when your down'? Well it's sparked a debate in the Morgan mansion as to what is the bitterest song ever: he says 'Every Breath you Take'....Police, I say: 'It Should have been Me'......Yvonne Fair

What say you?
