Hi all, I'm new to this so I don't know if this has been posted before.
You have two ropes and although they are not identical in length, when lit, each of them burn for 1 hour. However, both ropes burn at random rates along their length - ie start off fast/slow, then slow down/speed up etc.
Using these two ropes and a lighter, how would you measure 3/4 of an hour?
I think this has been asked 3 times here already, but don't worry. It's a good one and anyone who hasn't seen it should have fun with it.
you light one rope at both ends and at the same time you light the second rope ( 1 end)
if the first rope has totally burned than a half hour has past, so the the secons rope can stil burn for a half hour, so what you do is to light the second rope also at the other end after a half hour.
and when this rope is also burned completly you have measured 45 minutes
Yup - I'll try a harder one next time
