If I wanted to get involved in community arts projects in northern Brazil or teach english grammar, who would I contact to find out information on these subjects?. I have 8 months to go and the portugese lessons are just starting!!
Northern Brazil eh? Well that certainly narrows it down to a few thousand square miles.
Your not wrong!! I have read about the arts scene in Olinda and thought that would be a great place to go, very large cities dont agree with me, I appreciate preservation of cultural surroundings a lot more. Apart from that I would be willing to go anywhere really, as long as it is a world away from Irish weather!! Problem is finding out about organisations and groups before going.
Well, teaching English is pretty easy to do in Brazil for a native speaker, just walk into any school and you are hired. Or put out ads in the paper and such and get private classes.
Thing is, in the North of Brazil the demand for classes is much lower than in the South, as most of the business and industry is in the South.
As to community arts, an easy one to recommend is the Samba schools.
They prepare their floats and parades for Carnaval all year, and if you want in it's pretty easy (just a matter of spending some cash to help toward the decorations).
Then you can get involved in designing stuff for the Carnaval floats.
