Did you know African people would have been exterminated if not for Malaria?

In the 1500's, European people tried to penetrate the interior of the continent of Africa. They were unable to do so, because they caught malaria and because there were not many easily navigable rivers.

Otherwise, the fate of Africans might have been the same as that of Native Americans.

Fortunately for Africans, their immune systems were on their side. If it were the other way around, the Europeans would have wiped them out just like they did the Native Americans.

Europeans could not penetrate until the post-industrial 1800's... and by then, human rights were better.

Good thing they didn't get to them in the age of "Social Darwinism," right?

@farmerman,
Just because you disagree doesn't mean I'm not right.

Some people still don't believe we evolved from Africa. Doesn't mean they aren't wrong.

@farmerjohn1324,
The european overlords moved a lot of tribes down to the river banks . The accumulated wisdom of those had them living in areas relatively devoid of mosquitoes further away from the river . Malaria then killed them in droves .

Im razzin you, Ive argued the genetic "protection" that is afforded to certain populations in AFrica, that is also linked to sickle cell.

@farmerjohn1324,
Legend has it that quinine was first used in Europe in 1630 but it may well have been used by sailors long before that . Its efficacy was long held in doubt because there are 3 types of similar tree bark and only one has quinine . Many natives sold the useless varieties to Europeans and kept the real one for themselves . Cromwell was on his deathbed from malaria and refused to take the quinine because it came from Godless savages .
