@aidan,
It's hard to believe that Lionel Ritchie was ever funky - but I think this one by the Commodores is pretty funky - especially at the beginning:

@panzade,
Funk Lite
EWF's sound was too polished to be funky. But yes, "Party People" was definitely one of their 'funkiest' cuts. (I loved Kalimba, btw)

@tomp123,
I like this song - they even sample Bootsy- that must count for some funkiness:

Some good ones in here, but I don't think these have been mentioned:

Stevie Wonder - Superstition (Oh yes... THE funkiest dance track of all time)
The Majestics - Funky Chick
The Jacksons - Blame It On The Boogie
Bee Gees - Stayin Alive (I know it's a Disco track... but hey)

Check out the 'Dad Man Cat' album by Corduroy for some modern British funk.

@kickycan,
Sorry yo, the cuts you've listed are definitely funky, but check out "Heartbeat" by WAR, 1975, on Why can't we be friends?. Wicked funky, I am sure it is a hidden treasure in collections everywhere.

@vicedsw,
I rather like the band 'Pimps of Joytime'. They have a lot of rather cool sounding modern funk songs.

@blueveinedthrobber,
That's an awful lot of post forgetting the guy I would give the top two "funkiest songs ever".

Stevie Wonder.

All day sucker wins on the cosmic slop funk, and Maybe your baby takes it on the swampy, sticky, stanky, baby makin' funk!

I also saw no mention of Parliament's "Red-hot Mama". Cocaine is a hell of a drug... (The song, not the posters here. Smile

Some honorable mentions can go out to Bill Withers, RHCP, and J5.
