Facebook message notification

I have recently had a facebook message notification on my phone but when i went to open it it disappeared. I couldn't find a message on any other devices either. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas how it could have happened?

@LWharton,
You probably got a spam message and then the sender was removed from Facebook by their moderating system.
