The French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, has condemned the anti-Muslim attacks, verbal and by active crimes, saying he would "not tolerate any act, any threat aimed against a place of worship or any hostile manifestation against French people because of their origin or their religion". Evereyone, who would (try to) commit such acts would be "searched, arrested and punished".

This is a pretty powerful statement, Hingehead.

@Lordyaswas,
Your great post made me think about relative percentags of muslims in western nations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_by_country

You can sort by percentage. France does have the highest percentage of any western european nation (7.5%) and I agree they are probably the leading light in Europe courtesy of egalitaire, fraternataire, libertaire and their long held practice of making citizens of their colonies citizens of France - so, for example, lots of Algerian muslims live in France.

UK is 4.6 percent
Canada is 2.8
Australia 1.9
USA 0.8

Extrapolation on 'management' can now continue.

France just mobilized 88,000 forces to find 2 people.

All over the world light bulbs just when off in the heads of terrorists.

@hawkeye10,
Wrong.

All over the world, yoing radicalised muslims are seeing two young potential martyrs in a desperate plight against the infidel and dreaming of having such glory themselves one day.

one does not preclude the other. Any word on your needed logic upgrade? Is it on the calendar?

@hawkeye10,
Oh dear.

You were referring to terrorists having their lightbulbs switched off.

I said it was the other way round and they would only be inspired by all of this.

What part didn't you understand?

@Lordyaswas,
You are confused:

Quote:
a light bulb goes off/on chiefly US, informal
◊ When a light bulb goes off/on (in your head), you suddenly understand something or have a great idea.
After thinking about the problem for several days, a light bulb went off in her head, and she knew how to solve it.

It did not occur to me that A2K members might not be able to translate this very common american idiom.

@hawkeye10,
Over here, when a lightbulb goes off, it does so because it's power has been cut. It is in off mode.

The other meaning that can be attached to other things.....dynamite, bombs etc., is to infer that it has exploded.

What part of off means on, when referring to a lightbulb, unless an idiot has wired its switch the wrong way round?

If you mean that someone has a lightbulb come on, or is having what we call a lightbulb moment, please say so, rather than just writing "when off ", whatever the hell that means.

Does A2K have an interpreter service of which you could avail yourself?

@Lordyaswas,
Me not dumbing down my speech enough for the conversation to work is a common problem. But now that you get it can we please move this thread along?

@hawkeye10,
Yes, that would be good, but knowing your vocabulary you now probably say the opposite for some reason, so I shall save any confusion by saying that it would be bad as well.

@hawkeye10,
The French police has dwarfed about half a dozen terrorist plots over the past two or three months. The threat is taken seriously. Laugh it off if you will.

I tell you something Olivier.....I certainly wouldn't argue with French Police when they get serious.

They don't mess about.

@Lordyaswas,
I'm not sure if I wouldn't prefer the police to the gendarmerie ...

Thanks to the internet and satellite tv, I can watch various French tv stations and media sources. And since I know both places quite well ...

@Walter Hinteler,
Same here, Walter. I'm watching France 24 and have travelled through that area many times.

I'm just wondering how Marine Le Pen will fare after all this is over. It will be interesting to see the results from the next election, if there is one due in the near future.

Speaking to my brother on the phone last night, he says he cannot believe the anger against muslims among his normally mild mannered workmates.

There are already backlashes (as you previously mentioned here I believe) but he says he's worried about what will happen over the coming weeks.

@Lordyaswas,
The missus watches France 24 in English, I've the French version on and BTMtv.

Besides the "anger" your brother entioned, I can imagine that some other want-to-be-criminals take the chance just to copy it, laying a false trail ...
