Trying my hardest to solve a crossword clue: "make whole", have settled for "unity" but others are saying it should be "unify"???

Wondering why it isn't your word of choice.

x-tremely convinced 'unity' is the word. A noun, defined as 'the quality of being united into one", according to Encarta Encyclopedia.

You have told me that the clue is a verbal phrase "make whole", not a noun.

Zonks Clary, I may have to eat my words if you class "make whole" as a verbal phrase. I have no argument with that and accept your advice gratefully.

At least you must admit that MAKE is a verb, no?

Can you follow either of the noun meanings with the adjective or noun 'whole'?

Explanation: Make = manufacturer's brand (of car)
Does it make sense to say "Manufacturer's brand whole"?
Make = the act of mixing cards
Does it make sense to say "The act of mixing cards whole"?
Isn't it more likely that "(To) make whole" means To complete, or indeed, to unify?
I suppose this comes from your being brought up in Dutch!
