You could use &-nbsp; (without the hyphen) to add spaces. It'll be converted to regular spaces, so you won't be able to see how it's done by clicking quote for this post.
Here's a paragraph indented with 5 spaces. And here's a bunch more text to try to get this line to wrap for people with wide screens. And have I mentioned that "engineers" created a butt-kicking machine in Idaho? Well they sure did, as you'll see here:
