Is there anyway to indent the beginning of a paragraph? The tab button is obviously out and if I try to add a lot of spaces they're just ignored.

The ignoring of the spaces made me a bit nutty when I was trying to post the balderdash scores. Evil or Very Mad

Yes, there is.

Just wrap your text in list tags. Quote this post to see how I did it.

This is text, text is good, but like everything text causes cancer. Beth says she used to run naked on the beach, but she refuses to post pictures. More text is needed for adequate demonstration for users with large... resolutions. Hellifino what I'll say next, but I am certain that it will uphold the quality that you have come to know and love. Buhbye.

Use the code tags, text pasted within the code tags uses a fized width font.

But is there any way to indent only the beginning of a paragraph instead of the entire thing?

You could use &-nbsp; (without the hyphen) to add spaces. It'll be converted to regular spaces, so you won't be able to see how it's done by clicking quote for this post.

Here's a paragraph indented with 5 spaces. And here's a bunch more text to try to get this line to wrap for people with wide screens. And have I mentioned that "engineers" created a butt-kicking machine in Idaho? Well they sure did, as you'll see here: http://www.nbc5i.com/news/3275779/detail.html

And here's a paragraph indented with fifteen spaces, which is at least equally exciting.

Although, granted, an ass-kicking machine wouldn't be half as fun as a pants-pull down machine. Laughing

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspBlah, so you just type &-nbsp a million times and everything is peachy?

BTW, that's just standard HTML code for a non-breaking space. Remember that there needs to be an ampersand in front and a semicolon at the end, which in HTML means you're adding a special character. Some other examples are &-yen; (without the hyphen) for ¥, &-trade; for ™, etc.
