A christian view on body suspension

Reply Fri 4 Jun, 2004 06:37 pm
Is there one? I have recently come into contact with it...I guess I never paid attention before...but is it like evil, or what? I mean, they are really nice people, and postmodernism would have me say whatever works for the individual...but what does the Bible say? The body is a temple... What are other Christian views on this? Question Question Exclamation

Heh! Heh! Well, I'm not certain what the Christian views would be on this, but something tells me I would rather be hooked on Bach.

Bach later, folks

Rolling Eyes Read the link here: http://www.crystalinks.com/sundance.html and tell me how this is considered worse or less spiritual then say, Christian self-flagellation, or self-mutilation, or, to point out a more modern practice, emotionally damaging. Personally, I think this is probably more enlightened and less dangerous than a lot of things Christians have done in the name of their religion.

Ain't that the truth. Look at those wacky Christians who handle poisonous snakes. Shocked

http://atheism.about.com/library/weekly/aa081199.htm

From the article:

Taking up Serpents
The Holiness "snake handlers" grew out of the Church of God Holiness congregations in the first decades of this century. The basic doctrine which separates them from other fundamentalist groups is the idea that the presence of the Holy Ghost in their services gives them the power to heal the sick, perform exorcisms, speak in new tongues, drink poisonous or toxic substances like strychnine and battery acid, and of course handle deadly serpents. These beliefs are derived directly from Mark 16:17-18

And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.

I believe they should keep the faith.

They should grow in it each day,
and
especially,
please find several ways of
leaving the rest of us to our own way
of believing.
