Tex Ritter's record has a history behind it. Although he sang the song in the movie, his record company would not let him record it. Only after Frankie Laine's cover sold a million copies did they change their minds. Also, in the showing to preview audiences, the movie played the song so many times the audience started laughing, so they deleted much of it.

@edgarblythe,
Mark, I had no idea about Tex Ritter. Thanks for the information, buddy.

Loved The Comencheros, and I still think of John Wayne and his True Grit.

How about two songs now: First a great one by The Mills Brothers.

and, y'all, our hymn for today:

I was a small kid first time I heard Across the Alley. Since it was a country station, the artist likely was Bob Wills with his Texas Playboys. But both records are likely as old.

@edgarblythe,
I love The Mills Brothers because my Mamma loved them, Mark.

Love that one by Little Richard, buddy. I also like gospel music.

Here's one to match Richard's rain.

Ah, My Roman Catholic friend, I love that Irish patois. Odd how race has two meanings, no? The Rising of the Moon was fantastic.

Going to say good afternoon with three songs but first some info about The Mills Brothers.

The quartet that imitated--and bettered--musical instruments was among the first African American singing groups to cross racial lines, perform for royalty and have its own radio show.

Now, song one:

Another example of Victorian humour, not bad actually.

Good morning from our radio station here in Florida.

Hurry back, England, that was one funny observation about psychology. My professor of yesteryear, supported Behavior Modification and the board of education decided that teachers ought to use it in their lesson plans:

"students will do this; and students will do that."

Not one breath of wind here now. How about three stongs for the late morning.

First, a tribute to Rod Steiger who did The Twilight Zone:

triet to find a decent translation to this one, but it didn't work:

Now, one that I loved from a certain Doctor:

First, Marty doing the alamo:

Now, Kirk and The Vikings, but first a bit of info

Vikings: a brief history

The Vikings' homeland was Scandinavia: modern Norway, Sweden and Denmark. From here they travelled great distances, mainly by sea and river - as far as North America to the west, Russia to the east, Lapland to the north and North Africa and Iraq to the south. We know about them through archaeology, poetry, sagas and proverbs, treaties, and the writings of people in Europe and Asia whom they encountered. They were skilled craftsmen and boat-builders, adventurous explorers and wide-ranging traders. See Viking trade and Viking travel.

Great having England and Ireland with us today.

William Gladstone was not a popular figure in Punch.

Quote:
Mr. Gladstone says he objects to abstract resolutions." Some people think
he is apt to extend that objection to what may be called concrete "resolutions,"
which may perhaps account for his so often having taken them a little " too
late."____

For St. Patrick's Day...a song that will be heard played many times on Fifth Avenue in NYC today:

I thought about it listening to The Ballad of the Alamo. That song led me to another of the old west inspired songs…and since today is St. Patrick’s day…perhaps the song George Armstrong Custer considered his favorite is appropriate. It is the Garry Owen (Garryowen) march…the song played by Custer’s band (he took ‘em everywhere) every time the 7th Cavalry rode out. Although they didn’t go with him to the Little Bighorn…they played as the troops left camp.
