edgar, when you get the chance, tell us the name of the movie

I hope you are just pulling his leg...because I'm pretty sure he was just pulling ours.

Everybody knows THAT movie! (And it has been on television a couple of times recently.)

@edgarblythe,
Kubrick...space cadet...but a genius, Edgar.

Who would think of devoting six plus minutes to the Blue Danube Waltz...and so such a spectacular timing job for the musical transitions.

The song and the movie will be forever linked...and I see that as fitting. Both are so exceptional.

I saw that movie 13 times during its theater run!

My record for movie going is sparse, since the 60s, but I did see 2001 in a theater. That's the best way to see such a film.

Space Oddity was reflecting Darwin's theory of Evolution. I think I watched some of it, but can't remember.

Hope y'all liked Van the Man.

Saying good afternoon with two observations including music.

First, a birthday guy

Now "the legend of tarzan"

as edgar knows, I like the original:

Great having England and France with us today.

From Letty with love to all of you here.

As promised here is the full page that includes yesterday's article.

http://digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglitData/image/punch1887/1/123.jpg

The cartoon depicts Sir Robert Fowler who served as Lord Mayor Of London. He was the first person to serve more than one term. The City Of London, popularly known as The Square Mile is the financial district and just makes up a small part of London proper. Scandal and corruption go hand in hand with banking, we've recently had the manipulation of the Libor rate that has seen various financial institutions in court. It was no different then as the ex Lord Mayor is seen fighting for vested interests against reformers.

Quote:
According to Frank Harris, an admittedly unreliable source, Fowler excited the disgust of his fellow guests at a dinner given by William Thackeray Marriott by breaking wind copiously, and being apparently unconscious of giving offence.

Good morning from our Florida radio station;

Latin George, Loved both of your songs, especially Sunshine. Hurry back, dear friend.

You as well, pullman. Thanks for the further explanation of the Baronet. I just discovered that "chiaverini" has to do with tracing ancestral material. I tried it
myself there, but had some difficulty.

Inspired by edgar/Mark, I found out why I know A Space Oddity. One of my favorite performers did the theme, and here he is:

and y'all The Lettermen do Memories.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRaKYz4JVQw

Mine are really good now. Hope all of our contributors feel the same.

The Straus from 2001 video I played is quite striking.

On this date in 1972, California Governor Ronald Reagan pardons Merle Haggard for a 1957 attempted robbery that landed the singer in prison.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know that about Merle, edgar. Love Mamma Tried by him.

More synchronicity, because today is this gal's birthday and she's doing a cover of Dolly Parton's song.

@George,
Latin George, Welcome back to you as well.

Who Can I Turn to by Anthony was fabulous as was the
stage production of West Side Story.

I remember Art now:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr7wcGmh12A

and he remembered Clifford Brown.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc8x1DGSWzk

and, y'all, the lyrics.

They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied
They said "someday you'll find all who love are blind"
When your heart's on fire,
You must realize, smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away,
I am without my love (without my love)
Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
So I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies, smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes

Another example of Victorian humour. Parnell was an early Irish nationalist who with the support of Gladstone tried to get Home Rule for Ireland. It failed, and the rest is history.

Quote:
Lavinia Was reading the Times Parliamentary Report to her
Aunt, and read out:—" ' In the division on Mr. Parnell's first
amendment, Mr. John Roberts voted by mistake with the Noes,
instead of the Ayes.' " " How very absurd!" exclaimed Mrs. Ram.
" But I thought voting was always done with the hands."

As for Lavinia. I think she may have been a character drawn by the artist Charles Keene who used to draw for Punch His Wiki page.

Some drawings of Lavinia.

Good SUN day morning from our Florida radio station.

Latin George, you hurry back and happy to know that you liked that sextet, dear friend.

You hurry back as well, pullman. Always enjoy your info on Punch, etc.
