@George,
Well, dear friend, Five Guys Named Joe didn't work, but as you know,
I love Van the Man.

Going to say good afternoon now as I slept too late this morning and
had to have brunch. (bon appetite)

Would you believe that I had shrimp and potato salad?

I recall having separated you from euroGeorge by calling you
my Christian George. Smile

Here's a great song to match our sun:

From Letty with love to all of my friends here.

My plans for the evening:

Gonna sit down in the kitchen
And fix me something good to eat
And make my head a little high
And make this whole day complete
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

Well pass it to me baby
Pass it to me slow
We'll take time out to smile a little
Before we let it go
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

Well there ain't nothin' to do
And there's always room for more
Fill it, light it, shut up
And close the door
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

We gonna sit around the kitchen
Fix us somethin' good to eat
And make ourselves a little high
And make the whole day complete
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles...

This was written after May 68. It's a sung poem about the protests, about the distance between dreams and reality, without naivety. Starts slow but picks up; it's worth listening, especially if you get the lyrics. As always with Nougaro, they are amazing.

Claude Nougaro - Paris Mai
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLgaXyrJ_kY

Je ne veux plus cracher dans la gueule à papa! -- I don't want to spit on dady's face anymore!
Je voudrais savoir si l'homme a raison ou pas -- I want to know if man is right or not
Si je dois endosser cette guérite étroite -- If I must really wear this straightjacket
Avec sa manche gauche, avec sa manche droite, -- with its left arm, with its right arm,
Ses pâles oraisons, ses hymnes cramoisis, -- Its pale prayers, its crimson hymns,
Sa passion du futur, sa chronique amnésie! -- Its passion for future, its chronic amnesia!

@Olivier5,
There's no one quite like Ella Fitzgerald.

Nor is there anyone quite like Lady Soul.

@Olivier5,
"Paris Mai", a very moving song. (I had to look up a translation.)
68 was when I graduated college. What a time to be young!

@Olivier5,
I liked "Nougayork". It had a real NYC vibe.

Change of scene, change of pace.
There are many versions of this.
Here's one I like.

@George,
Oh Nina.... :-) So beautiful. That lady had class. Who's at that level today?

Nougayork was written, composed and recorded in New York, at the tail end of Nougaro's career. It "came" to him during a vacation. It was his last smash. He had had many hits before, often jazzy or bossa nova-ish.

I heard his hommage to Satchmo when I was 10 years old, and it made me cry. I didn't even know who Amstrong was. It's the word plays with black and white that got me in, and the quiet expression of love.

Claude Nougaro - Amstrong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FyZNN08j2M

Armstrong, je ne suis pas noir
Je suis blanc de peau
Quand on veut chanter l'espoir
Quel manque de pot!
Oui, j'ai beau voir le ciel, l'oiseau
Mais rien, rien ne luit là-haut
Les anges, zéro
Je suis blanc de peau!

Armstrong, tu te fends la poire
On voit toutes tes dents
Moi, je broie plutôt du noir
Du noir en dedans
Chante pour moi, Louis, oh oui
Chante, chante, chante, ça tient chaud
J'ai froid, oh moi
Qui suis blanc de peau

Armstrong, la vie, quelle histoire!
C'est pas très marrant
Qu'on l'écrive blanc sur noir
Ou bien noir sur blanc...
On voit surtout du rouge, du rouge
Sang, sang, sans trêve ni repos
Qu'on soit, ma foi
Noir ou blanc de peau

Armstrong, un jour, tôt ou tard
On n'est que des os
Est-ce que les tiens seront noirs?
Ce serait rigolo
Allez Louis, alléluia!
Au-delà de nos oripeaux
Noir et blanc sont ressemblants
Comme deux gouttes d'eau

@Letty,
Nice mellow version of "Can't Help Falling".

I always associate this with a break-up I went through quite a few years ago.

I didn't expect that soul-searching from Kris Kristofferson.
Very touching.
