Can anyone help me find the full text to this poem?
My father was fond of reciting a poem which contained the following lines. He died and I wanted to recite it at his funeral.

"I'VE LIVED ALL MY LIFE"
"I'VE PAID ALL I'VE BORROWED"
"I'VE LOST ALL I'VE LENT"
...........
"I HAD A FRIEND ONCE"
..........
"I HAD A DOG, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT DOG DID?"
"THAT DOG DIED!"
...................................
"YE THOUGH I WALK THRU THE VALLEY AND SHADOW OF DEATH"
..........................
Then it goes on to finish the 23rd psalm.

Pacmanjoe, I did make an attempt to find your dad's poem, but regret I was unsuccessful. I saw your other posts in the MUSIC and QUOTES forums earlier today, but didn't respond because I hadn't any information.

I do hope you are eventually successful. All good wishes - I'm sorry about your dad.

Thanks for trying, it's driving me nuts, trying to remember the rest. Maybe it will come to me in a dream while I sleep!

Well, good luck. Post it if you find it, or if you dream it, I'd be interested.

I developed a tool in my student days that, using categories, means that the most obscure things are found, as long as they are on the Internet. Google has returned to me two sites with those words in, and both are A2K queries...

So, I'll get the program out and get checking.

Thanks! I let me know what you find out. I would like to hear more about that program also.

I've checked it out; and, ironically, the only page that it leads to is this one.. it doesn't sound like the poem that would be on the Internet...

I'll check using another search option.

@PACMANJOE,
I'VE JUST FOUND IT, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.
IT IS FROM A TOMBSTONE IN MARBLE FALLS, TX
(POPULATION 4,959)
**************************************************
One of the best things about local histories is the ability to find interesting tidbits that would not have had much chance of being published anywhere else.

The last page of the Marble Falls book, for instance, features a photograph of a colorful character's tombstone. Engraved on the grave marker are 45 last words that ought to bring a smile to just about anyone:

"I've led a wild life boys,
but I've earned all I spent.
I paid all I borrowed
and lost all I lent.
I once loved a woman
and that came to an end.
So get a good dog boys.
It will be your best friend."
********************************
IT APEARS MY DAD JUST MADE UP OR CHANGED THE OTHER LINES.
