Origin of the University system

The first university was founded in Fez, Morocco in the mid-800's. However, it's a difficult question to answer, because so many countries established 'training schools' for different specialities.

The University of Bologna in Italy (founded 1155 c.e.) is generally regarded as the first "modern" university (as opposed to various "academies" operating in more ancient times.) It was primarily intended for the study of law. The link c.i. provided is excellent. I haven't anything better to offer.

(PS -- believe it or not, the U. of Bologna was co-ed, something that would very soon go out of fashion and not get revived until the 19th century.)

I did indeed spell incorrectly, but I was too late to correct it.
However, I also have written numerouis times that english is not my native language. far far far from it. So excuse me for that.
But my guess is you want to use that to dismiss my message.
Of course there is in this case no correlation between mispelling and my intellect.
Actually, the only thing under consideration here is wether it is true what I wrote or not. Whatever the speling.
