(I am afraid that this may cause a nightmare.)

Neat.

It doesn't look like a moon. It looks more like a large captured asteroid.

you're right satt

I really wish I hadnt seen Hyperion that close. Whats the explanation of its strange structure? Looks like a giant wasp or hornet nest to me.

Steve..
Yeah, it has very strange uneven structures: ridged terrains,
something like a submarine escarpment..
I have no idea about the genesis of those.

Astronomically speaking.

I just finished a scifi novel in which the ice particles of the rings were living creatures which captured and disassembled asteroids/moons for food.

Sounds familiar. What was the name?

By the way, the recent Sci-Fi movie called _Serenity_ is very good (if you like that sort a thing).

Never did see serenity....

News from Saturn....

NASA scientists have found dozens of methane lakes on the surface of Titan (one of Saturn's moons). These are the first lakes found anywhere else but on earth. Titan also has mountains, dunes and valleys.

Quote:
Titan has long been of interest to planetary scientists, who say it may resemble an early version of Earth. Scientists hope that studying Titan will help them understand how the planets formed and life began. Titan is believed to contain many of the elements that preceded life on Earth, including a thick atmosphere composed mainly of nitrogen and methane with traces of ammonia, argon and ethane. Hey Edgar, didn't see you there until now. The cassini mission and the rovers missions are so much fun to keep up with and yet I have been remiss in reporting on Saturn and his environs.

Another stunner. Is it Titan? Europa? No! It's our own sweet Earth and the moon.
