First SOI (Saturn Orbit Insertion) images will be returned
Indeed Cassini is comin from the french-italian astronomer of the 17th century, Jean-Dominique Cassini, very famous, and he did alot of work, of observation on saturn, its rings and satellites, and also for a gang of other ****.
Well, it's certainly been fun to watch. And we have 3-4 more years of stunning imagery and surprising news. I love this stuff.
Wow, I really did think some of the photos were computer generated. Unfortunately I didn't know much about this project by NASA until the later stages, I would have loved to follow it all the way.
yall should check out RAW pictures on cassini jpl website, they share online their untreated uncalibrated raw images, and its pretty interesting to see what cassini really sees thru its filters (all images are obviously in black and white since color images we see are only combinations of pictures took with different filters)
Looks like we'll be visiting Mercury in a few years as well....

Cassini shows Saturn's rings pink and grey
Quote: PASADENA: The international Cassini spacecraft sent back a natural-color image of Saturn showing the planet's rings are shades of pink, gray and a bit of brown, scientists announced Thursday.
The image was taken June 21, a few days before the spacecraft entered orbit, from 6.4 million kilometers below the rings.
The rings are mostly ice, which is white if it is pure. Researchers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory believe the different colors reflect the presence of other materials, such as rock or carbon compounds.
Detailed close-ups sent immediately after Cassini entered orbit on June 30 were in black and white.
Another vivid set of ring images released previously used infrared photography.
The seven major rings are named A through G, although they are not arrayed in alphabetical order.
The brightest part of the new image is the B ring, a nearly 25,745km-wide ring that has many bands with a distinct sandy colour.
Colour variations in the rings were previously seen by the Hubble Space Telescope and the Voyager spacecraft that flew past Saturn in 1980 and 1981. But the variations are more distinct as seen from Cassini, NASA said.
Very interesting.

I think i know the answer, but i dont get it.... show your work plz
The average age of a group of teachers and students is 20. The average age of the teachers is 35, and the average age of students is 15. What is the ratio of teachers to students? Express your answer as a common fraction.
So, we don't get images until tomorrow sometime? Hey, wait, Jes, how did you see a pic?
There was something on CNN yesterday, maybe it was an older photo?

The international Cassini spacecraft began beaming close-up images of Saturn's moon Titan to Earth late Tuesday. This image taken on Sunday reveals Saturn's moon Titan's bright "continent-sized" area known as Xanadu.
this is called saturn's first close up!
A bit of a purple haze on Titan:
damn, too bad I was so busy today, maybe I'll come check into the new titan news during breaks in the game.........
