I'm in the IT field (networking, support) and i've heard that IT people are in demand down under. Does anyone that lives in Australia have any idea if this is true? I've always wanted to live dowm there but I don't want to waste a whole lot of time if there's no chance of imigrating...
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!
Thanks

There is fairly major unemployment in the IT industry in Australia. Lots of really well-qualified people are out of work for long periods.

Unless you have some particular skill, which is greatly in need, I doubt that you'd get a visa.

Perhaps some sort of investigative trip down here first, to see what's around. Even then, you may have to try and find a company to sponsor you.

Blahhhhh!
Is it really that hard to get in the country? I thought it had gotten easier to get in over the last two years...I am so upset.

You're welcome to try.

I work in the IT industry - but not in networking or support. However, I know that people in these areas are looking for jobs. The plentiful supply has pushed wages way down, too!

A trip out may clarify the situation for you. Where are you from?

I live in Florida in the US. IT jobs are pretty easy to come by here in the states; lots of jobs and most americans are too lazy to get any good certs...
I doubt I could even get ACS certification with only an AS and some CompTia / Microsoft certs anyways.
Thanks for the reply, it will always be the dream!

Your point about certification is well made.

There is a never-ending drive to achieve higher and better certification here, despite the fact that the jobs don't really reaquire such levels.

I guess that with so few jobs, the tech holding the most paper wins. Maybe I should go back to school and become a nurse...heard you need them! You have guy nurses over there, right?
