Who owns the content posted to the Original Writing category?
In the TOS it is very clear that posting here does not change copyright except to grant A2K the right to display it (which is the obvious result of posting here).
It is also clear that we can display and format it as we wish (this covers everything from what kind of ads are displayed to what colors the site uses, removal of spam etc). This means for e.g. that if an insult is removed the user can't claim moral rights to having their content altered for example.
Bottom line is that this doesn't work how most people THINK it works with things like MSN groups and geocities. But then again, it doesn't work the way they THINK it does with those sites either.
Some people got to saying that sites like geocities "own" your content if you upload it there.
That's just not true, they just reserve the right to display it within their system. So if geocities decides to feature one of their sites in their network they don't get in trouble for doing so.
Likewise, our TOS grants us rights to display content submitted here and the right to determine how it will be displayed here (for example, merely posting on this site gives you no "right" to determine what kind of ads will or will not be displayed on pages where your content is displayed) as well as the right to modify it (e.g. if you post an insult we can remove it at out discretion and are under no obligation to display posts if they violate our policies).
What we neither want nor attempt to secure is copyright.
