This is several months old. I remember from another Buzzfeed article that interviewed the reporter who dropped the day old phone. The screen did shatter.
I felt I was being weird for not taking my new phone out of the house, and holding it gingerly until I got a case. Now I'm glad I did.
Same reason I always leave my Kindle Fire tablet at home despite having plenty of audiobooks to read for the commute and not listening to them at home.
