Here's my idea. It's not possible to look through opaque thingies. Not really. So how about just the illusion? What if we coat an object in mirrors, so that when looking at it head on, the mirrors redirect us to look past it (technically the light is redirected on the way TO us, but as long as we're understood...). That seems very possible. The problem is, what if we're not looking at the object directly? Would it be possible to calculate all of the angles, so matter which direction you were looking at the configuration of mirrors, it would appear as if you were looking at objects on the other side? In a sense, making the entire configuration invisible. That way we just need to attach wheels, and we have a litle invisible car. The military applications are obvious.
Some Japanese already made something that gives the illusion of invisibility. It's a coat that has captures video on one side and displays it on the other side.
There have been a few threads on it already but I couldn't find the one I was looking for.
Cool. Have you seen images? Does it look realistic (almost like nothing is there)?
Scoats, I built an invisibility machine a couple months ago, but I can't find the damn thing.

Yeah, I've seen images and was looking for them to show you.
It was still a bit visible but the effect was astounding. At current levels it's more of a camouflage coat than an invisible one, and the US military has been very interested.
Here's one pic.
Here's the one I was looking for:
The Naitic Army research lab in Naitic Mass. has something similar. Basically it is a super camouflage cloak that redirects light and blurs edges.
Oo! Can you get us pictures, acquiunk?
Unfortunately no, but I did know someone who consulted on the project.
I have one of these coats that my buddies and I put together in my garage. I think we did pretty well. Here is a picture of me wearing it.
It's not too bad, is it?
By the way, how do you post pictures?
Well, nevermind, obviously it was easy to figure out. There two guys in that photo.
If you look closely there are three people in that photo.
The caption said two. I don't see the third. Unless you're referring to that thumb, over the lense.
There is a person on the left, and a person on the right, but standing between then directly in front of the tree is a third figure who is least visible. Follow the pool of light along the ground were they are standing.
The Brits have had an invisible uniform for troops for years.
It's covered in little, um, TVs

and inside each TV is a camera connected to a um, TV

on the opposite side.
Too expensive to give to all the troops though and better than the Japanese ones I think.
I showed this to my wife and she said, "Yeah, those are some really interesting digitally altered photos." Or something like that.
I promise you, my photo was not digitally altered one bit.
