There's an old saying. It goes something like this:

An aroused passion has no conscience.

What is passion?
Ambition, desire, adoration, greed, lust.
I believe 'desire' encompasses' all of the above - Thus is the fundamental drive behind our actions. And what we desire is subjective.
I only desire one thing - an absence from pain - For therein lies pleasure.
