I'm curious, too -- I thought the only movie Beatty and Wood made together was Splendor in the Grass.

(Maybe they retitled Splendor In The Grass as Love Under The Elms Laughing But that wasn't a B&W film either )

No real Xs, so this is a stretch..

A film called "X-27" in Sweden and Germany was released in the U.S. under the title "Dishonored" (Marlene Dietrich)

(even more of a stretch would be Comrade X Very Happy --Clark Gable)

Aaah. You didn't see X the Unknown (1956) with Dean Jagger and Leo McKern)?

Zorba The Greek (Anthony Quinn, Alan Bates)
