Intern means something different over here. Normally it's young person fresh out of school/university working somewhere for free to get work experience.
It means the same here. Or they can do it while still in school.
I have not. I haven't seen it advertised here on BBC America. Most of my UK tele watching now a days comes in the form of Dr. Who. I'm looking forward to see how Peter does with the roll.
