@Walter Hinteler,
I saw a programme not so long ago where they (some London councils) are fitting vertical gardens to various grotty walls around the City, and planting them up with all manner of (mainly) hardy herb.
Rosemary, Sage, Marjoram, Mint etc., in the hope that it inspires parents to show kids what herbs are all about, and how to cook with them.

I am a big fan of vertical gardens.

@Walter Hinteler,
Sounds (and looks like) a place I'd enjoy.

@Lordyaswas,
So am I. Well, depending on the given vertical garden. Nifty idea on the herbs. What happens in winter? rosemary will make it through, some mint if well established. Being a southern california girl I'm used to perennial type herbs living on, but here where it snows, my culinary sage and one of the mints were goners. Basil long gone, natch.

I didn't always like vertical gardens. In so. cal. I thought they were too contrived at first. Got over that.

Which reminds me - I can be quite keen on espaliered walls..

@ossobuco,
Apparently most of the herbs survive winter in the City, unless we have a really harsh one.
I'm sure the Councils would be ready to replace with new sproglings in the spring, as they would probably be saving a bob or two on graffiti cleaning.

Here's a shrubby Van Gogh in London....

Reutte, Tyrol, Austria

With a total length of 403 metres and a maximum height of 110 metres, this pedestrian bridge stretches high above the B179 Fern Pass federal highway, from which it derives its name, from the Ehrenberg castle ruins to Fort Claudia.

@Lordyaswas,
It made me homesick for London; used to be my favorite destination when prices were more reasonable. Anyone have a spare bedroom? LOL

Monument, the unambiguously named monument to the Great Fire of London. The column stands 202 ft high.

@RexRed,
Wonderful picture but made me think about how living is there.
Balacing the week´s shopping in stormy weather.
Living in house one I have to visit house 2 and three to get to house seven and also visit house seven to get to number 6 or 8.
I enjoy it.

@RexRed,
Wait a second - I can get from 1 to 6,7 and 8 without visiting the others.
It is like a puzzle.

London Underground. Crossrail.

Crossrail is a 118-kilometre railway line that is under construction in England. It is due to begin full operation in 2018, serving London and its environs by providing a new east-west route across Greater London.

In about three years time, this section will be a bustling platform underneath Bond Street.
