This aqueduct purpose was to provide water drained from nearby ponds and delivered to the Domain of the Palace of Versailles (aka the Gardens of Versailles). Built by François Michel Le Tellier de Louvois in 1686.
Years ago, my/our favourite "Paris-region-hotel" was close to it.
