spreading capitalism

Independent farmers/businessmen harvest the rewards of investment and hard work to supply the needs of an unmet market in true spitit of capitalism; Afghanistan is now producing nine times the quantity of drugs it did under the Taliban. It is understandable that by allowing drug peddling in Afghanistan, the [Nato] alliance ensures loyalty of warlords on the ground and of some Afghan leaders, Nevertheless, the drug flow from Afghanistan is posing a serious threat to the national security of all of the central Asian CIS [confederation of independent states].

Same deal in Columbia Boss. What's sick about it; is the farmers aren't making extra money... they are barely making enough to feed their families, where non-drug crops won't even do that.

Only because Heroine is illegal in those states. Just another argument for legalizing it.

Why not go to the roots of this problem: bring a future to Afghanistan by building schools, hospitals, by creating another sort of lifestyle so that the Afghan farmers are not forced to make a living out of the harvesting of opium and all that sort of stuff? It sounds unrealistic, but it seems to be a better option than "well, why don't just legalize heroine?"
