Need a Powerful, yet frugal 2.1 subwoofer system for a Christmas gift. What should I buy?

I want to gift a 2.1 subwoofer system to my brother on Xmas. However, I just have $100, and I want this money to be well spent. Which system or brand should I buy? A rich body texture and a separate remote control would be a bonus.
