What it means

It means that, geographically, Australia is almost as large as mainland USA, therefore the scope for "clinical research" should be huge.

Bearing in mind such a vast continent only has a population slightly over a third of tiny England, it goes without saying that the chances of finding wild, untouched wilderness to study is also huge.
It is home to the world's largest barrier reef, it's flora and fauna is usually quite different from the rest of the world and there are vast reserves of minerals being mined as we speak, and many more millions of tons yet to be discovered.

Their beer is also good, and they have finally learned how to play cricket properly, so what's not to love?
