I've read the site rules and I also saw the thread about posting links when it relates to articles, but I still have some questions.
First off, I don't mind if my posts get edited, deleted or links removed, I'm just wondering what links are appropriate and what aren't?
I see a lot of threads that contain links to controversal web sites like religion and freedom of speech issues having the links removed, but I don't see anything about linking to activist websites being against the rules.
I guess what I'm asking is what is allowed and what isn't when posting links that are political or of a controversal nature, such as pro or anti-abortion and the like. And, are sites to political petitions not allowed?
Petitions are frequently not allowed. But it's not true that you see a lot of "controversial" websites removed.
The content of the site matters only in specific cases like porn, scams, and certain commercial criteria.
Illegal sites and certain "hate" sites won't be allowed but removing links for political content is not a policy except in extreme cases.
Incidentally, please do not use this forum (or any of our forums) to ask about policy.
Eventually there will be a section added to this site to help clarify policy, but one policy tht I can clarify right now is that asking about policy, or policy decisions on the boards is not permitted because of the abuse that can arise (e.g. spammer has his link pulled and starts creating multiple threads telling us that we are Nazis and that it wasn't spam).
The idea is that the volunteer moderstors have enough to do with enforecing the policies without having to explain them or respond to challenges in regard to their implementation.
To help explain it to the members there will eventually be a section on this in the FAQ or in a new FAQ. But until then it's safe to assume that if a link is removed, it met a criteria for removal.
P.S. the specific criteria for link removal will probably never be posted, there's a point based system in place and the details won't be disclosed (just the general guidelines).
