Tuesday was "Teachers' Day" here in Brazil and I'm still trying to eat all the chocolate I got. Is there such a day Stateside?
No, unfortunately.
To me, teaching is one of the most important professions in the world. After all, these folks are doing a great bit of
molding of the coming generations.
Just found this thread. In the public school district here where I live, and where my kids have gone to and are going to school, they have a Teacher Appreciation Week every year. During that time, the students and parents send cards, notes and small gifts like flowers, candy, coffee mugs, etc., to the teaching staff thanking them for all they do. There's also a luncheon given in honor of all the teachers, and the students have a part in that, too...they make a pretty big deal out of it. It's nice.
Phoenix...
Couldn't agree with you more re teaching.
Craven...
Are you a teacher?
I was a teacher till about three weeks ago. I taught ESL.
Cool! In this area, there are a lot of recent Russian and Korean immigrants so there are quite a few ESL teachers.
One of my son's friends is finishing his studies in Japanese at Berkeley. He's planning on going to Japan afterwards to teach English. He's looking forward to it.
