ok, we all know the original is the best, but what are some of your favorite cover songs
xtc - all along the watchtower
marriane faithful - tower of song
jason and the scorchers - absolutely sweet marie
a bunch more but i'll read some of yours first
After watching the tribute to George Harrison the other night, for me Clapton, Macca, ringo, Lynne, et al version of "while my guitar gently weeps" Awesome.
van halen's version of "pretty woman" is soooooo much better than orbison's original...
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Higher Ground". Much better than Stevie Wonders' original version IMO.
Type O Negative's cover of Seals and Crofts 'Summer Breeze' is one of the most unusual covers I've ever heard.
Manfred Mann's cover of Springsteen's 'Blinded by the Light' is a classic. No disrespect to Bruce, but I couldn't stand his version.
Ace Frehly's cover of ELOs 'Do Ya' is problaby the worst cover I've ever heard.
My favorite - probably Pantera doing Sabbath's 'Planet Caravan'.
Shonen Knife's cover of On Top of the World . . .
Jeff Buckley covering Hallelujah by Leonard Coen.
Tricky's cover of Dear God by XTC.
Metallica covering The Wait by Killing Joke.
superchunk - scary monsters (and supercreeps)
luther wright and the wrongs - the wall (they covered the whole album as a country album, amazingly it works not too bad)
The Jeff Healy Band
Stuck in the Middle With You.
just great!
Sid Vicious doing My Way - cracks me up!
Rod Stewart doing "Your Song"
Tina Turner doing "The Bitch Is Back"
Billy Joel doing "Dance To The Music" (at his Madison Square Garden "Millenium Concert")
Reba McIntire's "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" (though I prefer Vicki Lawrence's version)
The Blues Brothers doing "Rubber Biscuit"
Nights in White Satin by the Incredible Shrinking Dickies.
Satisfaction by The Residents
The Blues Brothers doing "Rubber Biscuit"
Great one!
The Foo Fighters version of Darling Nicki is SO MUCH better than Prince's original version.
Luther Vandross' version of "A House is Not a Home"
Isaac Hayes "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" or "Bring Back That Loving Feeling" or "Something." Isaac Hayes took alot of classic cuts and made them all his.
Stevie Wonder's version of "We Can Work it Out."
Isley Brothers "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World."
Mitch Ryder's version of "When You Were Mine" by Prince
two canadian entries
the bare naked ladies - lovers in a dangerous time
avril lavigne - knocking on heavens door (it's not as bad i first imagined it might be)
I am especially fond of Pink Floyd's cover of Tumbling Tumble Weeds originally done by Sons of the Pioneers
Jean Carne's "Knocking on Heaven's Door" is wonderful also. So is Joni Mitchell's "Water" duet with Willie Nelson.
Oh God, he's at it again.
