We could have used downcasts. It is such a common word. Wonder why www.m-w.com has no listing of it. Shocked

I don't think I've ever heard it pluralized... I don't like the m-w dictionary, myself. I think it's a silly one. Imagine ecstasy spelled with an x - what is this - new age spelling?

A) There had to be one standard on-line dictionary for use here
B)Extasy was found as the alternative spelling...makes sense when you realize the drug known as x, ex, xtc are all short versions of ecstasy/extasy
C)mac11 has final say on all of these choices, and goes with the on-line dictionary listed.
D)don't let it get to you.

A person can express their opinion, can't they, without getting told off? I DO think these new age spellings are ludicrous - lite, nite - what, we're too lazy to remember how to spell correctly? Is it we just don't have the time to write an extra letter?

I don't care why extasy exists - I am still entitled to think it's a spurious spelling and to say so.

And I am mature enough, thank you, to be able to think something without 'letting it get to me' - I hope you weren't being patronizing.

I wasn't looking to tell you off...just stating some facts since I didn't know if you were aware of how this particular thread operates. No offending meant towards you.

Thank you. In that case, I do appreciate it. THere's a lot to learn here - not just the games, but the personalities.

I'm glad to see that we can all play nicely here. Very Happy

Merriam Webster doesn't list a plural because they only consider downcast to be an adjective.
