I'm relooking at the thread, thus a response to early post -
I liked 96 tears, so help me. Better to say I didn't despise it.
Never made it to worm stage.

@panzade,
I didn't say it was Marley did I.I don't know why they had Marley's picture. I like UB40's cover just as well. Its a driving along the hiway song.
Ive got a few of their CDs. Marley was always too hard core for me.
(thanks for the memories, earworms by him welcome)
I heard Peter Paul and Mary sing it in Del Mar.
I looked at the La Bamba video that came next - that reminds me of the one time I was in a small night club in Mexico City, the behavior of the audience..

As one of the few humans who avoids the sound of the revered Frank Sinatra, I figure I was ok with him, though not actually liking his well known vocal ability, he was just there on the radio, until Strangers in the Night, which brought me to auto-cringe and then and now I have to get rid of it. Not the lyrics - the repetitive phrase in his voice.
I have a dj friend (classical, jazz, now in his 80's and still at it) who had a shelf of Sinatra, which I lived though some of the times when visiting.
Next, an earworm I don't cringe at, I still like it, but takes days to just go away:
warning, it's je' Taime,
Interesting mix of languages re the repliers to the video..

There is one Marley Album everybody loves down here in Coconutville.
It's called Legend and my DJ friends play the whole thing when they need a 45 minute break
It's really worth getting it FM

@farmerman,
I'm certainly not a purist. I like some of Bartok's string quartets and some Dave Brubeck, Mahala Jackson and Metal, love what I'd term 'dramatic' pop - something with a story, Latin American, oh all sorts - in fact I like bits of just about every genre of music. So a thread covering all sorts of different music would be ideal for me - BUT - you say
