This was an adorable novelty song. In the mid-fifties the "Caddy" was considered the car to buy if a person had "made it". The Rambler was a much more modest ride, and were bought by many young people as their first car.

I think that the Caddy ran around seven thousand dollars at the time, which was much more than most people could afford. It had huge tail fins, which grew longer and larger year by year. I could name the year of a particular Caddy made between 1953-59 just by looking at its tail fins.

@panzade,
She won a 2.5 million dollar lawsuit, on the basis that the motel did not have adequate security.

@Phoenix32890,
I'd make fun of you, Phoenix, since I can, since you clued me in on what you are showing (that I can't see, no adobe flash).

But you won me over with the hours of waiting for Eddie Fisher. Not that I liked him.

I didn't have singer heart throbs then. I waited until I was sixteen and fell in love with a football player, also from afar.

@Phoenix32890,
I remember him, Phoe. But - I can rarely see you tubes (it's this particular computer, adobe flash cannot be upgraded) so I have to click on them sparely. Once in a while I can sneak up on them.

I remember being bored by Julius LaRosa. And Arthur Godfrey was a non stop talker who didn't catch my interest either. Of course, I probably didn't get whatever he was talking about.

Not that many years after that, when we had moved to Chicago, I listened to some local guy named Tom Duggan rant on and on late at night and enjoyed it.
I figure I was primed by A. Godfrey.

This was the theme song of a very popular TV series of the late '50s, called "Have Gun Will Travel".

Howdy Doody was a wildly popular kid's show that was on the air from 1947-1960. As the story goes, pregnant women would order tickets. Reason was that because of the popularity of the show, the it took literally years to get a ticket.

All the moms and dads wanted to give their kids a chance to sit in the "peanut gallery"

If you looked at the Howdy Doody clip, you will have seen Howdys face superimposed on a "test pattern". In the early days of television, programs were broadcast for a limited amount of time. In the late forties, television was broadcast from 5-11 p.m. After the last show of the day, the station would have a "sign off", which often included a clip of the National Anthem.

For the rest of the time that the tv was off the air, a "test pattern" was broadcast.

@Phoenix32890,
I've had relationships where I saw that same test pattern. Howdy was waving buh-bye, too. However, it was a no-strings-attached relationship.
