Thanks! It was the thread that caused this bursting forth of memories, and with it, the desire to explore my relationship to the music of my girlhood.

Can't leave Lou Reed out - he was an important part of the 60's music experience ...

I was 14. The girl in the house across the fence was 14. I sort of liked her, but had no interest as far as romance is concerned. She stood there a few times and sang this song at me across the fence.

My older brother and I made it a point to hear Johnny Horton on the Louisiana Hayride on Saturday night.
I've no resistance to the wayback machine when I hear this song, The Skyliners's, Ruby and the Romantics, The Drifters and the Platters, Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis's songs. I can smell the same smells and see those same sights I grew up around with my dearly departed brother (+6 yrs). Around 1958-1965, he used to tape record all the Top 40 with his Webcor reel-to-reel.
If I still talked to his widow, I'd give my right arm for those reels.
Arthur Godfrey was a big shot on television in the mid fifties. He became upset at LaRosa, who was on his show, and fired him on the air.He was an up and coming star, but Godfrey ruined his career.
